Etiquette may sound like an old fashioned word, but it is a critical concept
that will make or break your success in the modern day job search. Career Services
will continue to update this site with articles and advice on how to make sure
that you put your best foot forward when entering the world of work.
Social Networking Sites (e.g. Face Book, My Space)
Always remember that the internet is a public space. While the silly pictures
or your story about the latest beer bash are intended for your friends, this
information is also available to potential employers. Some employers are using
it as an additional tool to research their job applicants. And, unfortunately,
they probably won't be as wowed by your party life as your peers.

Dressing for Success
Dressing the part for a job interview or for any contact you have with a potential
employer is an important way to let them know you are serious and committed
to your job search.
While there are a many different styles available in stores today, it is important
to distinguish between trendy and professional. If in doubt, always choose the
more conservative style. In a job interview, you want to be remembered for the
information you share about your ability to do the job rather than your flashy
shirt or very short skirt.
Dining
Once you make it past the initial screening interview, secondary interviews
often include a meal. For this reason, it is important to think about appropriate
behavior while dining or socializing over drinks. Always remember that your
first an foremost reason for being at the event is to impress the employer.
While it may not feel like an interview, it is.
