Biography
Tolga Aydinliyim has been a member of the Department of Decision Sciences since August 2007. Prior to joining the University of Oregon, he received his Ph. D. in operations research from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and a minor in economics, with an emphasis on economic policy. He obtained both those degrees from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey. He is a member of INFORMS (Institute for Operations Research and Management Science), M&SOM (Manufacturing and Service Operations Management) Society, POMS (Production and Operations Management Society), and IIE (Institute for Industrial Engineers).
Professor Aydinliyim’s main research interests include coordination and competition issues in production planning and supply chain management, with particular emphasis on outsourcing and subcontracting. As opposed to the common approach in supply chain management research focusing on coordination at the aggregate inventory level, his research places more emphasis on the timeliness of the production activities and the coordination benefits at the shop floor level. In his research, Professor Aydinliyim uses mathematical modeling techniques and utilizes tools from economics, such as game theory, to model coordination with different information sharing structures among the supply chain members. A recent research interest for Professor Aydinliyim lies at the interface of operations and sustainability. In this research supported by the Center for Sustainable Business Practices at the Lundquist College of Business, he studies the implications of a discount pricing policy on a firm’s profitability, the effects of such a policy on the use of reusable resources, and the environmental impact that it creates. He has published in Manufacturing and Service Operations Management.
Outside of work, Professor Aydinliyim likes all kinds of sports, with particular interest in basketball. In addition, he enjoys cooking, listening to music, and traveling--especially to the Aegean coast of Turkey.
