About Eugene

PHOTO: Trees in the fall
The University's location offers exceptional park and recreational programs, affordable housing, excellent schools, and low crime.

Nestled in the beautiful Willamette Valley, Eugene-Springfield (pop. 200,000), offers exceptional quality of life in outstanding natural surroundings. Woods and open spaces, plentiful trees and green lawns, year-round flowers, and a mild, temperate climate create a congenial environment for learning, working, and living.

Our Pacific Northwest location has another advantage for business students: The region is experiencing rapid growth in an economy increasingly geared toward high technology and international trade, particularly with countries around the Pacific Rim.

Oregon Culture

Photo: A Hult Center Concert Although the Eugene/Springfield area retains the look and feel of a small town, its outstanding cultural attractions match the offerings of much larger cities. The Hult Center for the Performing Arts and the University combine to offer theater, symphony, dance, and opera. The internationally recognized Oregon Bach Festival attracts musicians from around the world. The Grateful Dead, B.B. King, Joe Williams, Joan Baez, Keith Jarrett, the Cowboy Junkies, and Emmylou Harris are just a few of the rock, blues, jazz, and country greats who have performed recently.

Ashland's Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Jacksonville's Peter Britt Festival are a short three-hour drive from Eugene. Portland, a city of more than one million with lively arts and cultural offerings to suit any taste, is only a two-hour drive away.

Oregon Outdoors

It's a one-hour drive to the Oregon coast, where rocky headlands, tidepools, pristine beaches, and awe-inspring ocean views create some of western America's most stunning PHOTO: Mountaineer scenery. Thanks to a farsighted citizenry, most of Oregons beachfront will always be publicly accessible; a thriving network of attractions, restaurants, hotels and festivals makes the coast a perfect get-away for a day, a weekend, or longer. Just an hour east of the Eugene/Springfield area lies the Cascade mountain range, where deep powder invites down-hill and cross-country skiers, and mountains and high desert offer hiking, backpacking, rock-climbing, fishing, and just plain relaxing. Mountain biking, windsurfing, and river running are also popular.
